Another meeting of the TWA

We're coming upon that wonderful day again! I look forward to the 3rd Sunday of every month so I can be physically surrounded by other people that love everything Doctor Who. I believe that starting earlier works out for most of us. I think possibly starting at 1pm would help everyone in the group be here around the same time. I know we have at least one person who attends church & I want to have everyone here this week, if we can. It seems in the past that there is always at least one person who is unable to attend so we have never had everyone here at the same time.

As always I encourage everyone to bring their favorite episodes or books to share. Last month we got to watch some of Ashley's favorite creatures/villains The Ice Warriors & I love them. Mind you not as much as Ashley does (I don't think anyone loves them as much as he does *giggle*), but a big part of what I have loved about Doctor Who is the monsters & creatures that have been created. Some cheaply done & seem a bit cheesy (look at the budget they had to work with), some excellently done with great skill & talent, but all of them are brilliant!

I wish BBCA would play episodes at the same time as they're being aired on BBC1. Waters of Mars will be playing on Sunday in Britain. If all goes well, the little fairy that helps us get episodes before they're released in the U.S. will be recording it for us during our meeting. Also we should have a copy of The Sarah Jane Adventures with the guest star of The Doctor David Tennant: The Wedding of Sarah Jane Smith. We can watch it if everyone wants or we can just make sure everyone that wants, has a copy.

If there is anything else anyone wants to add, feel free or just let me know & I'll have it done.

TWA Panels at Connooga

Well it looks like we are set up for the three panels we requested for connooga. We are set for:

Saturday: Doctor Who: The RTD Years
This is a look back at the past 5 years of doctor who, just as it is changing.
Saturday:Torchwood
A panel that discusses Torchwood past, present, and future.
Sunday: Doctor Who: Love And Monsters
A Celebration of two things that has made Doctor Who Doctor Who for over 45 years. . . Companions and Monsters.

The people at the con seem to be excited and I am excited about being a part of these panels.

If anyone is interested in getting a table (and working it) for our group, let us know as I can contact the con about that too.

This months meeting

Just a quick note. The 3rd Sunday of the month is coming upon us & we will be meeting a little earlier in the day than the usual time. Since we will be starting around noon(ish) we can do more than one story or episode, if everyone chooses to do so, plus we can end a little earlier. Something I would like this month is to make sure that everyone exchanges contact information. I want for everyone to be in contact with each other. This isn't just mine or Ashley's group, this is a united effort of everyone gathering to share something we all fully enjoy so I want everyone to feel equally apart of this.

Anyone that has an episode or story they want to share, bring it along with any books, magazines or other fun stuff. Oh & I am personally expecting to hear some stories of Dragon*con.

We are the T.W.A.

Sunday our group enjoyed a cook out at Ashley's house. We watched the movie The Dalek Invasion of Earth with Peter Cushing as Dr. Who. We also saw a young Bernard Cribbins as a London police officer, we now know him as Wilfred Mott or Donna Noble's grandfather. It was a very entertaining movie even if it didn't have the same structure as the television series. It had a bit of an old James Bond feel to it with it's adventure, but it gave us some insight as to how the Daleks are played today.

The more meetings we have, the more I look forward to the next one. Not just because we watch episodes & stories of my favorite show, but I love the discussions & I have honestly grown to appreciate the fellowship with the people of our group. Partly because they don't look at me like I'm an alien when I make references to all kinds of science fiction/ fantasy books, shows & movies & they let me be free in my own nerdiness. But also as people, they have goodness in them that I don't often see.

In our discussions we finally decided upon a name for us. We have had no label for ourselves & all the names I had come up with were too obscure for the world to know that we are a group of Doctor Who fans. I believe it was Kim who came up with the name of Tennessee Who Authority or T.W.A. for short. Hopefully soon we will have a graphic to go with the name. We all know that the TARDIS is the best way to travel...It is the sports car of time traveling space ships after all.

New Doctor & Companions

As we are waiting for the end of the David Tennant years as The Doctor to come to a close, we find that before he leaves we get to see him for 2 episodes in The Sarah Jane Adventures. Many of us are curious as to see how the stories will intertwine with the main story line of Doctor Who. I was glad to find that we will have a little more of DT before Matt Smith takes over the role of The Doctor. Yes, I am a David Tennant fan so for me, Matt Smith will have even bigger shoes to fill as The Doctor. Each Doctor has had something that we love so I hope that Matt has something to endear us to him as all of the others before.

Each companion has also had something that we all love, & I am looking forward to seeing Wilf as the next companion. When Matt Smith takes over as The Doctor we will see a beautiful sexy goddess as his companion. Karen Gillan who has been in an episode as The Soothesayer in The Fires of Pompeii has landed the role for companion in 2010. For me it seems to present a challenge. How do you cast such young attractive actors with out taking away from the whole story? There needs to come some phenomenal acting & superb performances from the rest of the crew that works on the show whether it be writers, directors, costume designers, or anyone else that has a finger in making the show.

Apprehension has always been present when a new actor takes over the role of The Doctor & this time is no different. As a kid I was reluctant to let go of Tom Baker as The Doctor & accept Peter Davison even though I knew that in order for the story to continue a new actor had to take over. It was because I enjoyed the story so much that I began to open my heart to Peter. Just like it was when I was a child, no matter how much I love David Tennant as my Doctor, I know I love the story even more. I will be able to open my nerdy science fiction heart to Matt Smith as the next Doctor & hope that he will impress me as much as he seemed to impress Steven Moffat.

My Life with Fandom!

Hey guys I thought I would just post to say that I have started a new blog that deals with being a fan. Of course it will deal mainly with Doctor Who I am sure, but it will also touch on other aspects of Fandom. The blog is called "My life with Fandom" and can be found at http://lifewithfandom.blogspot.com/

Its just starting and I'm not planning on making it public quite yet, but it is a work in progress where I can document being a fan.

Jen beat me to updating about 3rd sunday, so I will update about some options for viewing this week. Since Tarrance will be at Time gate I thought we could watch "The Five Doctors" as he wrote it and it involves the first five doctors (or as some people like to say 3 doctors and old guy in a wig and some old footage) And I have also had a request to watch some Colin Baker stories so I thought since we are already watching the five doctors we could also throw in "The Two Doctors" for good measure. But as I can't remember if I actually have the two doctors on DVD I will also be bringing some others so if someone would prefere to watch something else we can put it to a vote.

Looking forward to our monthly meeting.

Third Sunday Reminder

Just a quick note to everyone. I know that some have asked if we were still getting together this Sunday & YES is the answer. I know that it's close to TimeGate & there are some that are going (I, unfortunately, still do not know if I can make it). I, personally, think it would be fun to watch something that Terrance Dicks wrote since he will be at the convention.

I believe that it should be safe to say that unless it is posted otherwise, plan on every 3rd Sunday. I think that 4pm worked well for everyone last month so we shall keep that time as well.

If you have any questions, or would like to add anything at all, feel free!

Timegate dealers

for those of you who are thinking of going to timegate and are trying to budget for it, I thought I would send this along. Acording to the con website Alien Entertainment is going to be there as a vender. Alien entertainment runs "the Doctor who store" and as such will have a lot of merchendise such as the Big Finish Audios. So if yopu are trying to budget take a look at their website and look at some of the things they may have with them. http://www.alienentertainment.com/

Take a look that way you can plan :)

Timegate Comming up, and Connoga thoughts

For those of you interested in TimeGate I thought I would put out a reminder that today April 30 is the last day to get your tickets at 30$ for the weekend. They will go up to $40 at the door(which is still not a bad price!) I'm looking forward to this con and hope some of you can make it. I will be involved with a few panels including topics of "Unmade stories" I will be focusing on the unmade stories from the time of the TV movie, but the panel will focus on many unmade stories through out the life of the classic show and even some stories that were not made in the current show.

Also, for those of you interested, begin to think of topics for connooga panels next year. I would like to have our group RUN the doctor who portion of the con perhaps even having a fan table. So if you are planning on attending begin thinking of things we can do for that con to represent Doctor Who!

The third Sunday of the of May is the 17 which is the weekend before timegate. I am looking forward to seeing you all.

Joining us in person

For any of those who would like to join us in our viewing & discussion of episodes send me a personal message & I will give directions to the location, which is in Cleveland. Our group is still in it's early stages & we're still trying to think up a cool(ish) name. We are growing & I am sure that some things may change along the way. For now we are meeting every third Sunday of the month starting at around 4pm. As well as watching episodes we have a few books, magazines, & comics that will also be passed around for any discussion. We are open to any materials pertaining to Doctor Who or even spin offs so if you have something that you want to share with the class, it is most welcome.

Easter Special

Well the Easter special has came and went and I thought I would remind every one that this sunday we will be screening the Easter special. We will also look at another episode, probably the latest Christmas special.

I have already cheated and watched the special but alas I will not ruin it for you all. Looking forward to seeing you all on Sunday.
